I Finally Watched the Finale: Lessons Learned from Parenthood.

That you cannot always judge a show by it's name. Why would I like a show called Parenthood when I'm not even a parent? Oh, that's right...because it is the greatest show that has ever existed.

That there is nothing more important that family. And that family doesn't always look like you think it will.

That you never forget your first love.

That when you leave behind a legacy, you're never truly gone.

That marriages are worth fighting for. And that marriage is about forgiveness.

That aging doesn't mean you're no longer young.

That there's nothing in life a little dance party can't solve.

That there's absolutely nothing in life that is perfect, and that's what makes it beautiful.

And most importantly, That Friday Night Lights will never truly be over.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

Have you watched Parenthood?

  1. I started season 1 last year and really liked it, but I didn't end up ever really getting into season 2, I'm sure one day I'll eventually finish up the series though- love this roundup of lessons!

  12. omg chelseeaaaa. can we have a writing night and watch parenthood together? i'm on season 2 episode 19 i think (netflix is keeping track for me). a friend recommended this show and i can't stop loving it! i love how real it feels and i love the cast. it reminds me a little of gilmore girls and six feet under, two of my favorite shows. i think it reminds me of those shows not just bc of mutual cast members, but bc the show just feels like real life. the characters feel like my family or my friends families. it's wonderful!

  15. I ADORE Parenthood!!! I watched the last season faithfully and have yet to catch up on the others, but it was such a tearjerker when it was finally over. I love these lessons and definitely think you hit the nail on the head with all of them!

  18. I kid you not, I literally just sucked up my stubborness and watched the finale a few hours ago - I cried so much - which I've come to learn happens when you watch a Jason Katims show lol but I really love these people, I want the best for them in life, the lessons they've learned I feel I can relate to because they're human. And when I saw Jason Street at the end, I cried such happy tears. This show will be missed, truly :)

  19. My husband and I started watching Parenthood by chance during season one (in real time). It reeled us in right away, and we continued watching it to the end. I was SO SAD when I learned that the show was being canceled and balled and balled after watching the finale. We truly became attached to the characters over the years. There is a tiny little void in my heart now that the Bravermans used to occupy. I miss them as if they were real people in my life :(

I'll never understand why it was cancelled. So many people seemed to love it.

  21. OK, I need to watch this show. I love the lessons learned. Oh there are some things that I never will even admit and when I recognize them in a show or book I just can't get enough!!! Thank you, b/c we are out of shows at the moment. Hopefully I can find these somewhere!
